Not so easy being green…
1. August 2008 by admin.
There are many great sites out there full of green information, such as www.treehugger.com, www.campaignearth.org, and www.thegreenguide.com, so I won’t go into lengthy descriptions of the definition of green. The purpose of this blog is to build a network of support for myself, and others like me, struggling with maintaining a green lifestyle.
So, what does going green mean to me?
Well, on the top of my list would be green health. Going and staying green for the many health and planetary benefits is a goal that is important but seemingly unachievable to me. I have been an off and on organic food devotee since 2000 when I read my first explanation of what organic was and how the environment and I both benefit from green products. (New to organic? You can find a great explanation here)
A few of the many roadblocks that have sidetracked my success have been finances (Organic is expensive! See my upcoming blog on cutting costs), psychological (O.K. Do I have to exist on granola?), confusion (Wait, is organic the same as all natural? What is fair-trade? Certified Naturally Grown, Biodynamic, Grass-Fed… Huh? Check it out here), and convenience.
But food is not the only path to greenness. There are so many other important issues, like reducing your carbon footprint, sustainability, etc.
I want to be a better global citizen, but where do I start?? Join me on my green path! If you are an expert greenie, offer advice, tips, or tricks… All help is appreciated!
